What is a Domain?

When you are planning to have own a website, you must first think how you will name it.

Before you do anything else, you should come up with the best domain name that suits for your business, personal, ngo, blog, portal, etc…

Domain is part of a network address. Like website address, e-mail address and other internet protocol addresses.

It is a unique name that appears on your URL’s that determines the name of an address of a website.

An example of this is www.zauca.com where in zauca is the domain name. when you have an email address, it is seen after the @ sign.

An example of this is info@yahoo.com, on this example, yahoo is the domain name.

To completely understand what domain name is, here is an exmple, supposedly, you want to visit the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Its address is Rashtrapati Bhawan, President’s Estate, New Delhi 110004, which is an exact location.

When you go to Delhi, you can tell the taxi driver you want to visit the Rashtrapati Bhawan. You don’t need to mention the exact location because it is already know to the taxi driver.

Just like a website address, you don’t need to remember the numeric address, which is the IP address, to go on the exact location of the website.

How to choose a Domain Name

If you’re making a website for your business, your domain name should match your company name. For example: YourCompanyName.com

Domain names usually end with .com, .org or .net, but in recent months, a huge amount of domain extensions (the end part of the web address, like .com) have come out, ranging from .agency to .pizza.

Zacua’s advice? Avoid the weird extensions and go with .com, or the country that you own business or where you stay then go for .in co.in .net or .org for NGO unless they perfectly describe what you have to offer – and even then, see if you can find a more common name.
